You would expect the MoMA to be on any self-respecting list of American art galleries, but what has shot it to the top once again is the recent online release of 66,000 of its impressive 200,000-piece collection. Is it the same on a computer screen? Of course not, but it does make for interesting viewing for those outside of the United States.

Unmissable:
Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

There are hundreds of thousands of works on display at the MoMA, but the chance to see brushstrokes of one of the most famous artists to ever live in person, is just too good an opportunity to miss.

Les Demoiselles d’Avignon by Pablo Picasso

Credited by some as one of Picasso’s most influential works and a forerunner to the cubist movement, the depiction of five prostitutes in Avignon received firm criticism for going against the grain of traditional European art. Whether a mockery of tradition or a cornerstone of a new movement, it is a masterpiece and a must-see when in New York.
